316 / 316L / 316Ti (1.4401 / 1.4404 / 1.4571)

316 is a grade of stainless steel that is produced with the addition of molybdenum and more nickel into the 304 grade. With such chemical composition; the 316 grade can easily resist tough environments like salty water and acidic fluids. The 316 grade materials have much better tensile strength than the 304 grade.

316L is the low carbon and the 316Ti is the titanium added version of the 316 grade. 316L materials should be preferred for welding, while 316Ti must be preferred for work in high temperatures (550-800 °C).

After 304, the 316 is the most popular stainless steel grade.
